The animated feature film is an interesting medium with terrific potential yet untapped. It has the power to enthrall-kids and adults alike...a medium that naturally lends itself to themes that are larger than life...and Dashavatar is as large as themes can get.
Dashavatar is an interesting subject with tremendous cinematic potential. Using my creative freedom to the best, and the ability to visualize beyond the realms of imagination we have a very interesting creation.
It has all the trappings of a magnum opus with larger than life characters - Lord Vishnu and His 10 Avatars...demon kings, opulent settings, special effects as well as the dramatic narrative.
Whilst most production houses were tackling the popular stories like Hanuman, Ganesha , Krishna etc. which would appeal to children at large I decided to venture doing a story which surpasses them all and is the basis of Indian philosophy and Mythology. Also the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh are the leading deities so why not make a film on one of the leading deities from whom the popular avatars Rama and Krishna have emerged. It’s like tracing the source. In the pantheon of Hindu Mythology Lord Vishnu comes forth as a very colourful character and the subsequent film proved it to be so.
Dashavatar has a very interesting story telling pattern in which the old world sensitivities would appeal to the modern mind. The songs in the film have been written by today’s rising poet, Sandeep Khare and composed by debutant music director, Anand Kurhekar. They shall remain in the minds and lips of the audience for a long time. The dialogues have been written by Hriday Lani and have been delivered by some fine actors in the industry and the narration is in the captivating voice of Shatrughan Sinha.
The technical side has been handled by some of the best technicians in the industry. The sound design is by Bishwadeep Chatterji who has done many films like Parineeta, Laaga Chunri Mein Daag, Eklavya, Rituparno Ghosh’s Choker Bali…
The film has been mixed at Yashraj Films Studio under the stewardship of Anuj Mathur.
Dashavatar would call in the audience for a repeated cinematic experience at the theatres and also earn a place in the movie rack in every home.
